Biography

Dr. Cheryl Shaffer is the Associate Dean of Nursing and Health Career Programs at Suffolk County Community College, Selden, N.Y. She received a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Nursing from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Science degree with a dual concentration in Adult Health and Pediatric Health from Syracuse University. Dr. Shaffer earned her PhD. from Rutgers University in which she authored, “Parenting stress in mothers of preschool children recently diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.” Additionally, Dr. Shaffer is well versed in assessment methodologies, has published in Teaching and Learning in Nursing and has presented at nursing conferences, locally, regionally and nationally. She serves as a peer evaluator and team chair for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), as well as a representative for SCCC during the Middle States small team visits
